Description: WILD ROSEDark Blue Historical Staffordshire Plate 9 1/2”Enoch Wood c. 1830-1840 We are offering a dark blue, Historical Staffordshire plate in the "WILD ROSE" pattern. It measures about 9 1/2” in diameter and we believe it was made by Enoch Wood in Staffordshire, England. The plate is in good condition with no chips nor cracks. There are several very lite surface scratches on the front that are only noticeable upon very close inspection. The back is impressed with what we believe to be an impressed E.W & Co. mark and stamped with the "Wild Rose" pattern mark. The popular "Wild Rose" Staffordshire transfer pattern was made by numerous potters. The central scene is of a river and landscape, with fishermen by a bridge. The border consists of wild roses, giving the pattern its name. The scene is based on an actual location, Nuneham Courtenay, near Oxford. You can read more about this pattern in Coysh’s “Dictionary of Blue and White Printed Pottery 1780 – 1880.
