Description: The Bloody Sixth The Sixth North Carolina Regiment Confederate States of America History by Richard W. Iobst Roster by Louis H. Manarin 1987; Reprint of the original 1965 edition; published by Butternut Press, Gaithersburg, MD.; 493pp.; in very good condition with like dust jacket. (Only hardback edition; the 1st edition was printed in wraps!) One of the most famous line regiments of the Army of Northern Virginia. This fighting regiment brigaded at one time or another with such pugnacious regiments as the 7th & 8th Georgia, the 2nd & 11th Mississippi, and the 4th Alabama. In sad irony, the second colonel of the 6th North Carolina, William Dorsey Pender and the third colonel, Issac Avery, were both mortally wounded at Gettysburg, on July 2nd 1863. The campaigns in which the 6th North Carolina distinguished itself with gallantry include: 1st Manassas, Gaines Mill, 2nd Manassas, South Mountain, Sharpsburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Rappahannock Station, Plymouth, Bethesda Church, Cold Harbor, Fort Stedman, and the retreat to Appomattox. Contains a full annotated roster of the regiment.
