Description: Grand Army of the Republic business card. Gustavus Booth of the 5th Massachusetts cavalry. At one point in time there were a few accounts of the life of Gustavus Booth on the internet. It’s been awhile since I looked. Booth mustered out of the 5th as a Sgt. the 5th Massachusetts were one of the few African American regiments that were formed by a state rather than the US government. Most African American soldiers served under the US Colored Troops. 123 soldiers were killed in action out of this regiment. They saw most of their action around the time of the Battle of Petersburg. Card is about 1 1/2 by 4 inch in size. Stains, toning and wear. Mounting remnants on the back. Some light creasing that shows mostly on the back. Feel free to ask questions.
