BingataColors and Shapes of the Ryukyu Dynasty INTRODUCTION:Bingata is a dyeing technique developed during the Ryukyu dynasty, which was used for costumes of royalty and clans. Their costumes were dyed with gorgeous colors and unique color schemes using paper patterns. The technique is considered to have been established in the mid-18th century. This book introduces about 240 excellent works made by bingata dyeing. A variety of bingata works are posted, including excellent costumes from the Ryukyu dynasty, including 10 national treasures, large-patterned costumes dyed by connecting multiple patterns, small-patterned costumes, and furoshiki dyed with hand-painted resist dyeing glue without using paper patterns. It is also worth noting that about 60 bingata costumes from the Matsuzakaya collection, which was unveiled for the first time, are posted.Rich in photos, beautifully bound, hardcover, and reasonably sized, this book is highly recommended as a handy book. --------------------Publisher: Suntory Museum of Art, TokyoHardcover, 321 pagesSize: approx 167 X 264 X 25mm (6.6 X 10.5 X 1.0 inches) Weight: approx 855gLanguage: Japanese / Foreword, introduction of each chapter, list of works translated into EnglishPlates: All in color We also sell other books on Okinawan(=Ryukyu) culture.
