Description: Bill Mauldin, Up Front, Hardcover Book with Dust Jacket, 1945. 4th Printing. An American editorial cartoonist who won two Pulitzer Prizes for his work, Bill Mauldin was most famous for his World War II cartoons depicting American soldiers, as represented by the universal characters Willie and Joe, two weary and bedraggled infantry troopers who stoically endure the difficulties and dangers of duty in the field. His cartoons were popular with soldiers throughout Europe, and with civilians in the United States as well. The book Up Front offered for sale is in good condition, given that it is 78 years old. The pictures I have includeda re of the actual book being sold. The text block displays some yellowing from age, but the spine is tight. An inscription by a previous owner is present, but there are no other markings or writings. The dust jacket has some chipping at top with a small piece missing at top right front cover and the top of the spine. The jacket is unclipped and shows a price of $3.00. A wonderful, sad, and thought-provoking book about the dirty mess of actual military life during World War II. Very collectible!
