The full title of this publication is "Mauldin Says Bigotry at Home Mocks Sacrifices of Soldiers." The famous war cartoonist from Stars and Stripes stresses that the successes in World War II by African American, Jewish, and Japanese American soldiers failed to crush hate and intolerance toward African Americans, Jews, and Japanese Americans among the white American Christian population in the United States. He speaks out against intolerance and closes his speech with the note that he is an American citizen, a gentile, a Christian, and his skin is white; he also says that he is not a Communist (in response to the post- war Communist scare by right wing politicians that led to Senator Joe McCarthy). So he is "very curious to see what sort of criticism I am going to get from this." In addition to the text are the cartoon on the front cover and two additional Willie and Joe cartoons attacking intolerance. This is an extremely scarce publication, especially in this fine condition. Mauldin was a man who spoke the truth before his time.
