From the Preface of the Revised and Edited Edition “Every one can acknowledge the great value of Dr. William Smith’s Bible Dictionary, as containing “the fruit of the ripest biblical scholarship of England,” and that much of this value remains in our own condensation of his larger work into one smaller volume, which is the basis of the present volume. Also includes: List of Writers, Abbreviations, Appendix with the following: The Apostles and their History, The Apostolic History, Statistics of the Bible, Life of (Andrews) Christ, The Restored Commonwealth, The Divided Kingdoms, The Gospel History, Harmony of the Gospels, Calendar of the Jewish Year, Later Kingdom of Judah, Period of the Judges, Jewish Measures, The Undivided Monarchy, Jewish Money, Connections between the Old and New Testaments, Chronological Table of the Patriarchs, Patriarchal Period, Chart of Science and the Bible, Jewish Time, Jewish Weights and List of Illustrations. Condition: Bound in black textured leather with five raised bands on the spine with title and authors in gold gilt to top of back strip and on the front cover. Flexible hardbound boards have wear along all sides and edges, rubbing to the leather but text is bright and readable. The spine has sun fading making text harder to read and with wear at the top and bottom of the back strip. Rounded corners have much of leather worn from front edges, with less on the rear corners. The spine is straight, binding is tight, and hinges are sound with no cracking to the heavy black end papers. Text block is solid, all pages firmly attached, with an edge of gold gilt along all sides of the text block. Age tanning throughout. Pages 253 thru 258 have a crease to the bottom corner. Otherwise, all internal pages are clean, with no tears, cracking, or previous owner marks. 815 pages including Appendix plus 8 pages of color maps.
