BERNARD SHAW -- MUSIC IN LONDON, 1890-1894 -- Four Volumes with Slipcase, 1973

Description: This lot contains a set of four hardback books and their original slipcase. The books are all bound in green cloth, with gilt spine titles, and they measure about 5-1/2" x 8-1/2". They are all dated 1973 and published in New York by Vienna House. The slipcase is about 7" wide, and has a title block on one end, which describes the set as "Bernard Shaw's Music in London, The four-volume set, 1888-1894. In the order shown in the pictures, the four volumes are: 1) "Music in London,1890-1894: Criticisms Contributed to the World, Volume I" by Bernard Shaw, 317 pages.2) Same title and author, but Volume II, 342 pages3) Same title and author, but Volume III, 332 pages4) "London Music in 1888-1889 as Heard by Cornetto di Basso (Later known as Bernard Shaw), with some Further Autobiographical Details", 439 pages. The books are all in solid and functional condition, but with handwritten marks and comments in the text and margins. This is fairly minimal - just a few scattered pages - in the three numbered volumes, but much more widespread and pervasive in the 1888-1889 book, some examples of which are shown in the last few pictures.
