Description: This 1982 stereo double album by RCA Gold Seal (ATL2-4269) is a promotional copy of a half-speed remastering of a 1959 recording originally released in 1960, a performance of Berlioz's Requiem. Featured soloist is Léopold Simoneau (Tenor), accompanied by the New England Conservatory Chorus (directed by Lorna Cooke de Varon) and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Charles Munch. Lyrics are in Latin and English. The original 1960 album notes are in English by Richard Mohr, with a second set of notes by John Pfeiffer in 1982 explaining the half-speed remastering process. Also included is a photocopy of the original album's review in the December, 1960 edition of The Gramophone. The original recordings were remastered in the US, the records were pressed by Teldec in Germany, and the plastic inner sleeves were printed in Canada. The outer porthole sleeve shows shelf wear and a moderate bend on the lower right corner. (See Photo 1) The upper right corner of the back of the outer sleeve has some unidentified label residue, a silver "DEMONSTRATION" stamp over the UPC code, and a small collection index sticker. (Photo 2) This is one of many titles from an extensive collection of classical LPs and CDs that we will be listing here. All have been carefully stored for many years, played only on premium equipment, and show little to no wear. NOTES:Album sleeves may have a small index sticker, usually in the upper right corner of the back, which was applied when the album was first purchased for this private collection. Please be sure you know the Shipping charge to your address before bidding.
