With the support of the WPA Federal Art Project, Abbott created an extensive socio-historical record of NewYork's vanishing past as well as the construction of it modern future. Her time living in Paris during the 1920s produced dynamic portraits of the artistic and literary avant-garde including Jean Cocteau, James Joyce, Janet Flanner, Margarett Sargent, André Gide.
