A rare work by Danish/ American artist, Benny Cohn ( 1896-1980), who immigrated to the USA in 1939. A certificate of authenticity will be included with this work. Condition: In good condition. There are some spots of dirt seen on the surrounding white paper, but not on the artwork. Benny Cohn ( 1896-1980) Born in Copenhagen in 1896. Died in Florida, USA in 1980. He attended the technical school of fine arts and educated at the Royal Art Academy in 1912. He worked and traveled in Italy from 1919 and resided in Paris from 1921-1932. He stayed in the USA from 1928-1929 and later permanently immigrated there around 1939, due to the war in Europe. In the states, he resided in Boston, Connecticut, New York and Florida. He did the altarpiece for the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Lakewood NY, and lived at one point at the Belcourt Castle in Newport, Rhode Island. In the summers he resided at Martha’s Vineyard. He was a member of the Danish-American Society of Rhode Island and exhibited at the Art Club Providence, American British Art Center, League of Present Days Artists and had a show at Riverside Museum New York. He won the prestigious Royal Academy Gold Medallion in 1919 and 1920 and exhibited at Salon d'Automne in Paris 1921. Benny Cohn sometimes used the pseudonym Benjamin Collin, to hide his Jewish background. He also hid his sexual orientation and never officially came out, although he never married nor had children.
