Belt For TEAC X-1000 X-1000R X1000 X1000R Open Reel Generic for Part 5534692000

Description: Welcome to Atlanta Pro Sound Brand New Replacement Belt for TEAC Reel to Reel models X-1000, and X-1000R. These models were available in black and silver, but they use the same belt. (Unfortunately, this is not the belt for the X1000M, X-1000M half track mastering decks that ran at 7.5 and 15 ips. All the X-1000s do have the same fly wheels that the belt wraps around, the X-1000M belt path is so significantly different, that it requires another belt. While I do have the TEAC part number for the X-1000M belt, I have not yet discovered what size it is, so I do not know what belt that number cross-references to.) Available as Buy it Now one (1) brand new replacement belt for TEAC open reels, TEAC models X1000, X1000R, X-1000, and X-1000R both black and silver. Please be sure to compare shipping prices!!! Do not get tricked into spending $10 on the belt, but pay more overall by spending almost $6.00 for delivery! There is a myth that one belt fits 95% of all Reel to Reels. In reality, nothing is further from the truth. (It is also a myth that all TEAC Reel to Reels take the same belt!!!) A belt that is ½ inch too large or small will probably run on your open reel deck, but if it is too small, , there may be too much little pressure pulling the tape, it will wear out your motor years before it would under normal conditions. If it is too large, there may be too little pressure pulling the tape, and it might also be bad for the motor, but as belts get older, they expand, so in the best case, you need a replacement years before you should. Either way, it is bad. There are people online who have been selling belts for 10-15 years. Many have lots of feedback or have websites thatlook like they know what they are doing. Do they really know what belt is the match for your open reel? TEAC quit giving technical support on the models X1000 and X1000R (including part numbers) over a decade ago. When the models X-1000, and X-1000R rolled off the assembly line, I was Assistant Store Manager for the largest independent TEAC dealer in the Southeastern US. My information came from the TEAC Factory Repair Station in Atlanta, Georgia (note, I did not say factory authorized repair station, those were private companies in Atlanta, like HENCO and Norman's.) My information came from Yoshi, the man that ran the TEAC Repair center, his training was from TEAC Corporation in Tokyo (TEAC is an acronym for Tokyo Electronic Acoustic Company. I have fond memories of Yoshi driving his bright yellow Trans-AM up and down Buford Highway at speeds that were significantly above the speed limit! He loved that car. Read the Seller History below for more information. (In case you are wondering, I really do know that the dash in the model number comes after the X. I enter the model with the dash in different so those who search for the model can find it regardless of if they have the dash in their search!) 5 Belt Measurements All flat rubber belts have 5 measurements that affect the belt's performance. Length is the one most people think of right away. Length affects how tight the belt is. If it is too tight, the motor will not run (or if it is just a little too tight, the motor will wear out quickly). Width is one you might not think is important, however, the manufacturers specify this one down to the 64th of an inch! If the belt is too wide, the risk is the belt will hit the outsides of the capstan, which will create momentary bumps in the speed. If the belt is too narrow, it does not have enough contact with the capstan, causing it to slip. Either of these problems may be inaudible at first, but as the belt ages, who knows? Thickness of the belt is the smallest of the measurements. Most Turntable belts are close to the same thickness, but an el cheapo parts provider, who has only a decade of experience, might buy their belts based on length and get the one that costs them less regardless of the thickness that meets original specifications. You could get a belt that they bought wholesale at 99¢ but is way too thick! A belt that is too thick will not fully fold around the capstan, causing more pitch problems. If you call to complain, you are told that your turntable has natural Wow and Flutter. Friends: These models are closed-loop, dual capstan. Wow and Flutter is sixteen (16) times below the audible limit (½ of 1% wow and flutter is not audible with normal music -- Sources: Julian Hirsch - Hirsch-Houck Labs and the TEAC models X-1000, X1000R and X-1000M Service Manuals). Don't let them pull the wool over your eyes! If you hear wow and flutter (a.k.a. bad speed fluctuation), you might just have the wrong size belt! External Diameter . This one is a no-brainer, it is closely related to the thickness and internal diameter. Internal Diameter. Like #4, this one is also a no-brainer, it is closely related to the thickness and external diameter. Many old-style belts were cut to size. Modern (get it out the door as fast as you can) cutting techniques can lead to inconsistencies and inferior product. This belt is not cut, it is precision molded to meet original factory specifications for the TEAC X-1000 and X1000R. The belt that you are about to receive was recently manufactured by the same company that made the first belts for the TEAC models when your open reel was new. My distributor, Artistic Audio of Atlanta, buys thousands of belts made by this company and has been sending them all over the United States for many years. Every few of weeks Artistic Audio of Atlanta reorders belts buy the hundred, replacing the stock they have sold. No belt has been on their shelf more than a few weeks. Because they come into the distributor regularly, I can personally guarantee that the belt you get is fresh! About these Models: This section of this page is Under Construction. The belts are in stock, we are shipping them the evening after they are ordered. Check back soon! This section needs work, sorry, maybe after my next break in the action! The X-1000 is a Dual Capstan, ¼ Track Two Channel Stereo Open Reel with 3 heads, ERP (Erase Record and Playback). The tape speeds available on the X-1000R are 7.5 and 3¾ ips (or inches per second). The X-1000R was designed to use 10.5 inch or 7 inch reels. I have used 5 inch reels on this transport, before, but the use of 5 inch reels on these decks is not advised, because the electronic braking is calibrated for 10.5" and 7" reels, which are heavier than the smaller 5" reels, so the deck could stretch your tape. In the event that you do put a 5" reel on this machine, use caution and if you have to fast forward (>>) or rewind (<<), hit the opposite fast direction. That is, if rewinding (<<), hit FF (>>) or if Fast Forwarding (>>) hit REW or << quickly before stoping to slow the transport. If this is not clear to you, perhaps it would be best to Fast Forward (>>) or Rewind (<<) until the end of the tape. This deck is equipped with dbx Type I noise reduction. The rule of thumb is to playback with the dbx button pushed in if, and only if, the recording was made with dbx Type I noise reduction. Likewise, if the recording was made without dbx, play back with the dbx button out. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW if the recording was made with dbx, playback without dbx (button out) and listen at a comfortable volume. If the recording has no contrast between the louds and softs, lower the volume a little, push the dbx button in, and slowly raise the volume. If the recording sounds normal, you can assume the recording was made with dbx, and play it back that way. However, if the louds seem to pump or throw you forward, assume the recording was made without dbx and return the button to the out position. This deck is equipped to accommodate EE (or, Type II) Tape. Like Type I (LH, or Low Noise/High Output) tape, EE Tape is made from ferric particles. However, EE tape was treated with Cobalt so that the particles responded like CrO2 tape (like Type II cassette tape, like Maxell XLII or XLIIS/TDK SA or SA-X) tape with a significant (around 3 dB) increase in Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR). Once again, if the tape you are playing back is a EE tape, use the EE Switch. If the tape you are playing is not an EE tape, play back with the Type I/LH switch. Here, if you get this wrong, you can not hurt anything. If you playback your EE tape in the Type I/LH position, you will boost the highs and add a little background noise. The Signal to Noise Ratio on the X-1000 Series is so dang low, you may not hear the increase at all. On the other hand, if you play a Type I/LH tape in the EE position, you will mute the highs and cut a little background noise. Are you recording on this model??? (•••this will be totally revised! More will be added later about factory calibrations and the possibility that the deck was set up, after purchase, for a tape other than hat the factory calibrated it for..., these things take hours to write!) Special Transport Functions Clear, Program, Repeat, Cue, STC and STZ. Clear Touching the Clear button resets the time counter to zero. Program Many people preferred a reel to reel to be auto-reverse rather than single direction, that way they could play the front of the tape, then play the rear of the tape and have it start the first side of the tape, so that it looped. The X-1000 is a single direction deck, meaning it will not play the other side of the tape. However, its creators provided a cool feature: Programming! If you want your deck to provide near-endless sound, put on a tape in the beginning of the music that you want repeated and hit the program button. When you get to the end of the section you want repeated [possibly 3 hours later if you use 1 mil tape at 3¾ ips (or inches per second)], then hit program again. The deck will rewind to the first place you hit program and play it over and over. Another use of the Program mode would be to repeat a short section from anywhere on the tape. There are other program options, but, unfortunately, I do not have an owners manual to see all of the details. Repeat The Repeat mode will repeat from wherever you clear the counter to the end of the tape. Put a piece of foil "repeat" tape (aluminum) that sticks to the bottom of the tape. When the sensing tape gets to the repeat sensor on the supply (left) inertia roller (its the first transport object to the left of the head block). In the repeat mode, the deck will play from 00.00.00 on the tape counter until it gets to the sensing tape, then repeat. This is approximately 3 hours if your recording is playing at 3¾ ips (or inches per second) and you are using a 10.5" reel of one mil tape (3600 feet). Cue XXXXX STC XXXXX STZ XXXXX It has three (3) motors, the capstan motor is an FG Servo, DC Motor. The two (2) reel motors are slotless DC motors. DC motors have an advantage over AC motors in that the motor will continue running the exact same speed regardless of minor fluctuation in the AC currant from the wall outlet. Tape recorders should have DC motors (yet, not all did). In the "old days" motors had slots, the motor would jump a little at a time to get to the next slot. The advantage of slotless motors is that they run smooth, there are no jumps from slot to slot. The X-1000R (descriptions will be added later! (More will be added later, these things take hours to write!) The X-1000M is a stereo, half-track deck that runs at 7.5 and 15 ips. Unlike 4-track stereo, both sides of the tape are used to record FORWARD, there is no reverse, unless you want to play the tape backwards. That is easier done on a single capstan deck, if you are interested I can show you how to do it. (descriptions will be added later!) Are you about to purchase one of these models? ••••• (This will be edited and updater for these models!) The motor and drive system on any of the the X-Series decks is built like a tank. Seeing it run may be your least concern. Here is what I check before buying: This section is under construction...
