Description: Shipping Beautiful Vintage Jemez Pueblo Indian Pottery OLLA 7 in. tall signed C.C./Chosa A beautifully made and designed handmade vintage American Pueblo Indian OLLA measuring 7 in. tall by 5 in. wide at mouth (approximately 18 x 13 cm)in fine condition with some minor surface abrasions and a peripheral rim chip (which see in detail photo)and signed on the bottom "C.C. Jemez" (Jemez Pueblo and very possibly C. Chosa - a prominent old Jemez Pueblo family). Fresh from an old estate collection and said to have been collected in the late 1980s. Jemez Pueblo American Indian hand made pottery Olla - the most beautiful and classic of all American Pueblo Indian pottery shapes - and the most highly collectible. The pottery may date to the 1980s if family lore from the estate is accurate. The olla is handsomely made and bears all the signs of an experienced pueblo potter of considerable experience. The designs are typical of Jemez traditional pottery considerably more in keeping with the old school of design and execution than the newer pottery being produced more recently in Jemez pueblo. The very probable tribal name of Chosa from the signature 'C.C." is a family of considerable import in the tribe; Carnell Chosa is a tribal leader of considerable note in tribal government and a respected tribal leader with a Ph.D. The present olla was well chosen by a discriminating collector acquired sometime, per surviving family, in the late 1980s and is in near fine condition with no cracks or repairs, but does bear a small surface rim chip which does not affect the overall beauty of the olla. There are also a few pin sized scratches/abrasions around the pot which again are not detrimental to the overall beauty of this fine olla. Fresh from a private collection here in Southern California and offered here for the first time anywhere in a fixed price offering.
