Description: This is an Estate Fresh old Hand Watercolored Lithograph from a long time collector of Horse, Equestrian and Antiques lover. This is one of a group of these I was lucky enough to find at the Estate Sale. I believe these are Hand Watercolored Litho plates from an old equestrian book* referenced below, that was taken apart for the color plates, to be framed and hung on her walls. This image is of THE BEAUTIFUL 1800's HAND WATERCOLOR HORSE LITHOGRAPH PRINT EQUUS HIPPAGRUS the KOOMRAH. Plate 18, a native horse of Africa. She got them matted but never got them framed or hung. There are some beauties in this group and this is one of them. The images are 4.25" x 6.25" wide and matted at 8x10" so the frames are a common size. If ya love horses and antiques, this is the perfect combination for you. These are definitely pre 1890's and are in great condition, all matted and ready for framing. These plates are Signed in the right corner in the plate Lizars sc. I believe this to be William Home Lizars (1788-1859). He was an accomplished engraver from Edinburgh and was actually the first choice to do the engravings for Audubon in 1826, but H C Havell would do most of the work, when the project grew to epic proportions. L-ower Left corner is signed Col H Smith, possibly Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Hamilton Smith (1776-1859) , who I believe was the artist as Smith was indeed an Illustrator. I believe these plates came from the Book *The Naturalist's Library. Mammalia : Vol. XII. Horses. The Equidae or Genus Equus of Authors Hamilton-Smith, Charles - Published by W. H. Lizars 1841.
