Description: Estate sale find in Northern California in San Mateo at a home close to the old Bay Meadows race track. Bay Meadows closed in 2008. Offered is an extremely rare coffee mug from Bay Meadows. The mug says "This is Handicap Day at Bay Meadows" There is a photo of what is probably the 1945 Bay Meadows Handicap crowd. Imprinted is a headline from "THE CALL BULLETIN SPORTS DECEMBER 8, 1945" Also "BAY MEADOWS EST. 1934 SAN MATEO CALIFORNIA"I could find no other mugs like it searching online. I would assume the mug would probably date from 1946 the year after the headline. Mint condition, no chips or cracks. Stands about 4.5" tall and it is a very heavy mug. Thanks for looking.
