Description: This elegant Antique Lehmann, Arzberg, Bavaria, Germany Art Deco Porcelain Creamer with Yellow Roses in a Floral Bouquet is marked with the company's "Red Lion” and words "Made in Bavaria." This mark was used immediately after World War I. Upon Germany's defeat in World War I, revolution spread across Germany, including Bavaria, with the Bavarian monarchy being toppled and the proclamation of Bavaria as a short-lived, independent communist state (the Bavarian Soviet Republic). Due to the civil unrest during this period and the disruption to business that followed, some experts have questioned the attribution of the “Red Lion” mark at this time. This porcelain piece measures approx. 3 1/2″ in height and 5 1/2″ wide from spout to handle. One side of the creamer is almost completely covered with a beautiful design of yellow roses with red centers, surrounded by green leaves and a larger number of leaves in warm, almost fall-like, colors. The other side has a much smaller decoration primarily in lavender shades, with a single white rose with a yellow center. Touches of an appealing brown wash, used as just an accent, have been applied sparingly to the top edge and handle of the jug. The creamer has a distinctive angular handle, a scalloped base and a free flowing upper lip; all of these sinuous lines are representative of the Art Deco aesthetic. It has normal usage wear, and some fading, a few "flea bites" on the bottom, but is in otherwise great condition. Please see the pictures, which provide additional information as to condition, for more details! After Lorenz Christof Aecker had founded the first porcelain factory in 1838, Arzberg, characterized until then by mining, became Germany’s second largest porcelain town. The traditional brand ARZBERG dates back to a porcelain factory directed by Christoph Schumann which in 1892 he sold to Theodor Lehmann, after which time porcelain production took place at Jakobs Castle in Arzberg. This delightful creamer would be a real addition to an existing collection or cabinet or taking its daily place on the breakfast table bringing charm and the warmth of its colors to your household.
