Description: This is for a very unusual City Charter dedication plate for a small German town made to commemorate its incorporation. This city in the area of Saarland was an early Roman settlement. This one of a kind high relief dedication plate depicts an ancient war galley, called a triere or trireme, from around the 5th century B.C. The detail is excellent with Pegasus depicted on the ship's sail with stacked decks of rowing oars and an extended prow for ramming other ships. These war ships were also used by the Greeks, the Phoenicians and the Macedonians primarily in the Mediterranean Sea. This is all aluminum measuring 18" x 10" plus the relief depth. This would would go well in an office or an entry to a work shed. I've never seen anything else quite like this. If you are looking for something truly one of a kind this is it.
