Mossmayer" maintains a heard of 1,400 sheep at the Tabor farm for shearing and in 1899, purchased 500 head of sheep that were headed to San Francisco.John H. Thomas opened his general store in La Porte in 1868 and was installed as an officer in the Masonic Lodge of La Porte in 1874. Eventually, Thomas went into business with another prominent local, Simeon Wheeler, the cashier and notary at the La Porte Bank and Wells Fargo Agent. Thomas was also a part of the La Porte Guards, part of the volunteer Sierra Brigade, being elected to 5th Sergeant on June 24, 1863.Only minor signs of wear or handling consistent with its age. May have cut cancels, hole punch cancels and / or slight expected fold creases from posting. No unexpected stains, tears, holes, folds, creases or paper loss.
