Just recently discovered in New York City at a flea market held in the city there. This visually quite shocking & surprising antique metal figurative sculpture is from the late 19th-early 20th century & is from Bali, Indonesia. It's referred to as a Besihung hand forged figurative metal sculpture of a rooster. It's an iron metal assemblage, comprised of twisted iron rod & welded cut iron sheets. It has splayed legs, made of twisted iron rod & has a long, cupped body, capable of holding several pressed incense sticks or cones. The form boasts five cut iron sheet fins, bunched together & splayed open, as with a cock's tail. This feature more than any other, describes the figure as being a cock. The head's also surprising in its formation, comprised of a head on a bent neck with an iron sheet riveted to the base sheet, with the rivet acting as the rooster's eye. The figure hasn't been over-sprayed with new paint & the iron has episodes of some minor to moderate oxidation. Delightfully surprising.
