Description: For the Baseball Hobbyist. . . ~ Authentically Autographed ~ JOHNNY MIZE [1913-1993] ~ St. Louis Cardinals & member, National Baseball Hall of Fame (1981) 1991 The Sporting News Publishing Company & Megacards, Inc. Conlon Collection card #53 This Conlon Collection card by The Sporting News Publishing Company and Megacards has been personally signed by the player pictured. Johnny Mize was one of the most willing signers for collectors and fans of any era. Johnny, together with fellow Hall of Famer Earl Averill and all-time great "Indian Bob" Johnson signed autographs at the 1978 Washington State Sports Collectors Association show. Scarce First Printing This particular card is a First Printing card from the 1991 Conlon Collection set. It is clearly distinguished from the second and third printings by two facts: (1) Hall of Fame is spelled out in the upper right corner, rather than abbreviated HOF 1981 and (2) The reverse side is missing the MLB logo below card #53. First Printing cards are much scarcer than either second or third printing cards. ~ John Robert "Johnny" Mize ~ Johnny Mize was one of America's (as well as baseball's) all-time greats. He missed three full seasons to military service during World War II yet posted Hall of Fame statistics over 15 seasons. A 10-time All-Star, Johnny won 4 home run titles and 4 slugging percentage crowns, three RBI championships and was top National League hitter at .349 in 1939. With the New York Giants in 1947 Mize crushed 51 homers, scored 137 runs and drove in 138 for 226 net runs (runs + RBI - home runs). He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1981 and rubbed shoulders with collectors for years, willingly signing autographs and sharing his baseball experiences. Card size is the modern standard of 2-1/2" by 3-1/2". The card was personally signed by Johnny Mize. Condition: Excellent or better - check the high-resolution scans, front and back; this is the actual card the buyer will receive.
