According to Wikipedia: The Graz Autumn Fair is organized annually by Messe Congress Graz Betriebsgesellschaft mbH (MCG) and was held for the first time in 1906. In addition to different topics of the exhibitions across all sectors that offer investment and consumer goods, there is also a large amusement park (formerly: Messe-Prater). The number of visitors is around 70,000, with more than 450 exhibitors offering their products and services. The exhibition center is located in the 6th district of Graz Jakomini between Conrad-von-Hötzendorf-Straße (main entrance) and Münzgrabenstraße (Messe-Schlössl). On 29 September 1906 the Grazer Herbst-Messe was opened in the 1880-built industrial hall. The generously designed fair, planned since 1905, and from May 2, 1906 sponsored by the Grazer Herbst-Messe Association, was opened by Manfred von Clary und Aldringen (1852-1928), His Majesty's governor of Styria. The event attracted 260,000 visitors in nine days and was a great success, according to composer Eduard Wagnes (1863-1936) who wrote the great variety song A visit to the Grazer Herbstmesse. The historically significant event in the entertainment program for Grazer Herbstmesse took place on September 26, 1909, when the sons of the artist Franz Renner (1866-1912), Anatol and Alexander, successfully accomplished the first ascent and landing of an Austrian-built, 37 meters long, steerable airship, the Renner Estaric steering balloon I, and increased the prevailing interest in aviation at that time immensely. In addition to the (frequently repeated) flight action was another fair attraction of the year 1909, the championship of Austrian wrestlers. The next exhibition (since 1913) held after the First World War occurred in 1921, reorganized as a pattern and fabric inspection for Styrian producers and connected to a home and household theme, along with an old Styrian traditional costume festival. In subsequent years, the fair has developed into a real festival. The focus was on theme halls for: food, wine, tourism, milk, inventors, and beer. In 1928, there was a special exhibition for the first time for the autumn fair: On the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the state capital an "energy industry exhibition" was shown. From 1939 to 1947 no autumn fair took place. During the war years, part of the buildings were destroyed, including the industrial hall. Around 1960, the Graz fair was able to fully develop its internationality. Both visitors and exhibitors came from Germany, Italy, Yugoslavia and the Balkan states. This development also necessitated a professionalisation of the organizational structures, and beyond its role as an economic platform, the fair also became the link of European international understanding. In the 1960s and 1970s, the Graz Fair was flooded by visitors. Hundreds of exhibitors showed their new products and from toys to household appliances and textiles one saw the latest achievements of the consumer society. In the 1980s, trade fair concepts developed in-depth towards trade fairs. The amusement park became a party mile and the Graz Fair increasingly a gastronomic and social event. In the 1990s, the traditional consumer fairs gradually decreased visitor numbers, which led to the development of new specialist theme concepts. A time of radical upheaval was upon us. The range of discussions ranged from the rebuilding of a town hall to the complete removal from the urban area.
