Description: Australia, convict token c. 1837, "John Muir" engraved on 1797 cartwheel penny. This piece was presumably manufactured by or for John Muir, who was sentenced to penal transporation to Australia for 14 years by the Glasgow Court of Justiciary. He is known to have disembarked on the "Waterloo" on 2 October 1837, and arrived in new South Wales on 8 February 1838. The engraving in good order, the host coin poor. Interesting and worthy of further research.
