He was knighted in 1937 for his contribution to art and died in Olinda, Vic, in September, 1943. Sir Arthur's harbour scenes were composed from a high viewpoint, allowing certain play with space and daring compositional arrangements in his buildings, sky and seas as in McMahon's Point which he painted in 1890.
