Description: August Belmont, Sr. [1813 1890] was a 19th century German American politician, financier, foreign diplomat, and party chairman of the Democratic National Committee during the 1850's. Belmont is best known as a famous horse-breeder and racehorse owner who established the landmark Belmont racecourse located on Long Island, New York in 1858. Belmont is the namesake of the Belmont Stakes, the third jewel of the Triple Crown series of American thoroughbred horse racing. Listed for auction is a stunning display which containing the autograph of August Belmont, Sr. The autograph is signed ''yours truly August Belmont'' on a page which was removed from a letter. The signature is completed in dip pen and has the partial address of 50 Wall St. The autograph is centered below a great b/w image of the start of a horse race at Belmont. Mounted below is a professionally engraved plaque which reads as follows, ''August Belmont Sr. December 8, 1813 - November 24, 1890. Belmont Park Opening Day May 4, 1905. Bemont was a German - American financier horse breeder & racehorse owner. Belmont was the founder & namesake of the Belmont Stakes, the third leg of the Triple Crown Series''. The autograph has been professionally triple matted in a grey linen matte and accented with a silver and black inner matte. The display is completed in a quality ornate silver wood frame to the dimensions of 18.00 x 15.00 inches.
