It comes with its original box and paperwork. Its tested, working lights, runs smooth in forward and reverse. This locomotive will run and sound on DCC and DC layouts. Product Information This detailed HO Scale Atlas Master Gold AEM-7/ALP-44 Electric is based on the fast, powerful locomotives used on Amtrak's electrified lines. In the mid-1970s Amtrak was looking for a suitable replacement for its former Pennsylvania Railroad 1930s-built GG1 electric locomotives. Assembly began in 1978 at EMD, with the original bodies produced by the Budd Company and other components imported from Sweden. Amtrak's original order for 47 units was delivered between 1980 and 1982, and an additional seven arrived in 1988. This effectively removed the GG1 from regular Amtrak service. An additional seven units were delivered to Amtrak in 1988. Other buyers of these electrics included MARC and SEPTA, plus similar ALP44 units for NJ Transit. In 2019 all Amtrak units have been retired and other fleets are on the way out. Luckily several are now preserved in museums. The Atlas AEM-7/ALP-44 Electric comes equipped with a dual-mode ESU LokSound Select sound and DCC dual-mode decoder for operation on DCC and DC layouts. Note that although the dual-mode decoders will operate on DCC and DC layouts, DC and DCC units will not operate together in a consist. Plenty of applied details and realistic decoration for both prototype and fantasy "what if" schemes round out the detailed models.
