The DB5 shares many similar features to the DB4. However, the most substantial changes occurred under the bonnet where the engine capacity was increased to 4 litres, driving through an all-synchromesh 5 speed ZF gearbox. A top speed of over 140mph was achieved from this DOHC straight six producing 282 bhp @ 5500 rpm and 280 lbs-ft of torque @ 4500 rpm. Aston Martin's first DB5 prototype with chassis number DP/216/1 was fitted with a passenger ejector seat, bullet-proof shield and machine guns before making its debut in 1964's Goldfinger. Further appearances of BMT 216A were made as the Silver Birch DB5 returned in Thunderball and Skyfall.
