About Dustjackets: The dustjacket offered in this auction is digitally scanned from a high quality original. The master is then carefully restored to remove any minor imperfections. This significantly enhances the eye appeal rather than just offering a color photocopy with flaws. Great care is taken to painstakingly retouch these images with emphasis on maintaining the full scope of the original artwork and preserving the texture and granularity of the original. The dustjacket is then printed on an industrial quality machine using premium paper to ensure the best quality possible ... this results in sharper, crisper images and much better color definition (tone, hue & saturation) than typically seen with pleasing results. About Title: "So amid hand-shaking and laughings and blessings, Aleyne Edricson turned his back upon the Monks of Beaulieu." At the turn of the road he stopped and gazed back. "There was the wide-spread building, the Abbot's house, the long church, the cloisters with their lines of arches, all bathed and mellowed in the evening sun. There too was the canopied niche of the Virgin, and in the centre of all the cluster of white-robed monks who waved their hands to him." A sudden mist swam before the young man's eyes, and he turned away upon his journey with a heavy heart and a choking throat. And so Alleyne Edricson started to work out his father's wish and request that he would not remain in the cloisters but go out into the world. This he does by joining Sir Nigel Loring and his White Company of Saxon bowmen in the train of the Black Prince. After winning his spurs in France and Spain, Alleyne at the call of Cupid returns to England to marry Lady Maude Loring. A story, well worth reading. A story well worth having in your library. About Formats:: The original American Edition of The White Company was published by Thomas Crowell Co. of New York in 1891. The A.L. Burt reprint editions were issued afterwards using the original printing plates (as was common practice for many years). About Author: Arthur Conan Doyle [1859-1930] was a renowned British author who created the world famous detective Sherlock Holmes as well as the temperamental explorer Professor Challenger. Doyle's two most well-known historical novels, Sir Nigel and The White Company are relatively unknown today, though they were very popular up through the Second World War. In fact, Doyle himself regarded these and his other historical novels more highly than the Sherlock Holmes adventures for which he is mainly remembered.
