Description: Vintage Art Print of a sketch by a local Chester County artist of Lafayette's Headquarters at Brandywine Battlefield in Delaware County Pennsylvania . Undated but possibly done in the late 1970s or early 1980s.Protected in cardboard mat. Signed and numbered 51/250 in pencil. Limited to 250 copies. Text at bottom reads:The original clapboard portion was constructed in 1698 and is one of the very few of its type still standing. The 2-1/2 story stone addition was built in 1745. At the time of the Battle of the Brandywine (September 11, 1777), the house was owned by a sympathetic Quaker named Gideon Gilpin. His house and property were later plundered by the British Army. In the American Revolution, Lafayette served as a major-general in the Continental Army under George Washington. Wounded during the Battle of Brandywine, he still managed to organize a successful retreat. DIMENSIONS: With mat: 15-3/4 inches x 12 inches ; Without mat: 14 inches x 10 inches.
