Description: Art Nouveau Silver Plate Aide Memoir, Dance Card, Pencil & Original Paper.This is a small and very beautifully made completely original period Art Nouveau 'Aide Memoir' or Dance Card'.This is basically a very ornate notebook & pencil, made to hand from a necklace or chatelaine, and this one is a beautiful example in very tidy condition.It has a silver on gold colour, most likely silver plated brass, though not visibly marked that I can see.When closed it is about 5.1cm in height, 3.5cm wide, with a depth of maybe 0.7cm.The metal walls have very finely detailed & deeply embossed Art Nouveau designs typical of the period, the front what looks to be a poppy-seed flower, with further scroll-work to the upper spine, and further flowers and an empty cartouche on the back panel.It is held closed by the original miniature retractable pencil with ball terminal which opens and closes the lead.It has lead inside.The front panel is strongly sprung, care advised on opening the case.Inside are two original pads of paper, both with gold tipped pages though now faded, and of differing depths, both perforated like stamp pages.They are a tad aged but unused.The interior plating is pretty much immaculate, and shows how the outer case would have been, as well as the pencil.Overall, and apart from the loss to plating, this is an exceptional little example, beautiful, tactile & functional, the only other small negative being that it is missing its attachment loop to the top middle hole of the spine, though this can be replaced without to much difficulty, so please check all of the photos provided for a closer inspection.Note to buyers: Due to the number of items I have I will be sadly shortening my descriptions, though making sure any relevant information is included.
