Description: Art News Annual XXVII. Published in 1958. Softcover, 202 pages plus covers. Contains numerous color plates. Printed on thick, glossy paper. Measures about 9 3/4" x 12 3/4". This copy is in very nice condition -- there is even a subscription card enclosed. There is some wear to the spine and hinges, but the binding remains functional. The articles in this issue include "Kline and Rothko: Two Americans in Action" by abstract expressionist artist Elaine de Kooning and "On Erik Satie" by the influential American composer John Cage. Accompanying Cage's article is one by Roger Shattuck entitled "Erik Satie: Composer to the School of Paris," which explains Satie's presence in this volume otherwise dedicated to the visual arts. Also included is an article by James Thomas Flexner called "Fulton and Morse: Two Yankee Inventor-Painters" and a survey of the Lasker Collection entitled "Modern Art and Modern Tastes." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Our father was a bibliophile who collected rare books, letters, and ephemera for more than 60 years.
