Description: Art Deco Eduardo Benito Fashion Print, Original Frame: L’OFFRANDE DU POETE, Circa 1920’s One of three different framed Benito prints being offered at auction this week; all the same frame size and type. Condition varies slightly among the three pieces. These are believed to have been printed to be framed rather than cut out of magazines. All three prints are imprinted with a small “Los Angeles High School Library” embossed stamp. Perhaps at one time these could actually be checked out from the library. (I hope we don’t discover they were checked out and never returned). The imprints are not easily seen from a normal viewing distance. L’OFFRANDEDU POETEOU“JENE SAIS COMMENT VOUS REMERCIER” The print is in its original frame with light blue mat which has not been “dissected” (removed) for close inspection. Likely to be printed on heavy paper stock; not likely to have been trimmed from a larger work. Multi-color print; does not appear to have been hand colored. Not a Vogue magazine cover based its size but the same illustration could have been used for a magazine cover at some point (not researched). The artist, Eduardo Benito, created numerous pieces used for magazine covers during this period. Great classic 1920’s “Deco” look. Frame measures approx. 8-5/8” by 10-3/4”. Visible part of the print measures approx. 6” by 8”. The print is backed by cardboard and it is recommended that it should have archival preservation although it displays very nicely in its present condition. Weight: approx. 13 oz. (not packaged for shipping) Condition: Overall very good for the age of the work. The print has a faint imprint as noted above; does not detract from the overall quality of the work. Black wood frame with gold highlight along edges has scattered scratches and dings consistent with age. There is a tear in the brown paper cover on the back of the frame which exposes a portion of the cardboard backing on the print. Please check the photos carefully as an important part of the description and for the best measure of condition.
