The first issue appeared in 1946, The last #253 of the collection in 1982. DLM is born out of the passion of Aime and Marguerite Maeght. The first issues were intended by Aime Maeght to be spread among a large public, with original lithographs. 10.000 Copies were printed and distributed through kiosks. This failed completely and the remaining copies were sold by weight to finance the printing of issue 4, which was printed at only 1500 copies and was the catalog for the George Braque exhibition at the Galerie. Jacques Kober and Rene Char wrote the texts. This concept was continued in later issues combining great writers with great artists. In 1947, Adrien Maeght, joined the firm of his parents and assisted his father in the layout and execution. The artists created original lithographs to illustrate DLM. Mourlot did the lithographic printing and the text was printed by Union in issues 4-115. From 116-148, DLM was shot in the studios of Aime Maeght. Since 1960 an edition 'deluxe' was issued, on Arches paper, limited to 150 copies. In 1964, Adrien Maeght created the printing firm ARTE which designed and printed issues 149-232. All included lithographs. Following the death of Marguerite Maeght in 1977, the last numbers were made at the printing firm Lion, with fewer lithographs. Some issues were reprinted. In issue 250, Aime Maeght wanted to pay tribute to all those who had their name associated with DLM. Aime died in 1981 and issue 250 became a tribute to Marguerite and Aime Maeght for thirty five years of friendship with the artists and poets. Artists and Engravers: Artist: Pol Bury (Belgian, 1922-2005) Subject: No. 191, Mars 1971. (Issue 191, March 1971.): 'Pol Bury.' Text by Roland Topor (Pol Bury, l'Eleveur). This issue contains 8 original lithographs by Bury (on cover and interior), and several photographs on 24 pages, including cover exterior. Cinetisations are bizarre images of contorted and shattered buildings produced by the French kinetic sculptor Pol Bury in 1966 by the simple device of cutting or stamping out a series of concentric circles at key points in photographs, engravings, or reproductions of architectural subjects. The resulting rings were then remounted slightly askew. This utterly destroyed the stability of the buildings. Pol Bury enlarged his pictures and transferred them onto canvas or lithographic plates.Condition: Excellent. General age related toning and occasional very light soiling from handling.
