ARSENIC AND OLD LACE PLAY CAST - SHOW BILL SIGNED CO-SIGNED BY: TONY (ANTHONY) ROBERTS, JEAN STAPLETON, WILLIAM HICKEY - HFSID 314678 ARSENIC AND OLD LACE PLAY CAST Jean Stapleton, Tony Roberts, and William Hickey sign their names on a Playbill for a production of Arsenic and Old Lace Show bill signed: "Jean Stapleton", "Tony Roberts", "William/Hickey", in blue felt tip, 65 pages, 5¾x8½. Stage, screen and television actress JEAN STAPLETON (1923-2013) is best known for her role as Edith Bunker, aka "Dingbat", in the popular TV sitcom, All in the Family (1971-1980). Although the Emmy Award-winning "Edith" opened the show each week with a screeching rendition of "Those Were the Days", Stapleton not only possessed a lilting, well-modulated singing voice, but she was far from a "dingbat" in real life. She endeared herself to Broadwayites with her wistfully funny characterizations in the SRO musicals Damn Yankees, Bells Are Ringing and Funny Girl, roles that she would carry over into the film versions of these hits. Most of her onscreen work could be found in New York-based movies (Something Wild, Up the Down Staircase and Klute) and TV series (Car 54, Where Are You?, The Defenders and The Patty Duke Show). Stapleton has also made a number of other feature films, including You've Got Mail (1998), and has been a guest star on a number of other TV shows. TONY ROBERTS' (b. 1939) long-term friendship and professional relationship with comedian/writer/director Woody Allen began when Roberts was cast as Diane Keaton's husband in Allen's Broadway production Play It Again, Sam in 1969. Since that time, Roberts has appeared in such Allen efforts as Annie Hall (1977), Stardust Memories (1980), A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy (1982) and Radio Days (1987). He co-starred in the 1977 television series Rossetti and Ryan. More recently, Roberts has appeared in such titles as Twelve and Holding (2005), Law & Order: Criminal Intent (2008), and The Longest Week (2012). Noted for his gravelly voice and macabre characters, actor WILLIAM HICKEY (1927-1997) saw more prominence later in life as he grew older, though he began his acting career in the Golden Age of television, appearing on Studio One in Hollywood (1956) and popular shows during the era. He also worked on stage, beginning with an appearance in Tovarich (1952) and ending with his first and only starring role in Arsenic and Old Lace (1986). His characteristic voice made him perfect for the role of Dr. Finklestein in Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) and Lewis in Christmas Vacation (1989). Lightly toned. Corners lightly worn.
