Description: Murano Studio ArT GLaSs Battuto Vase • Battuto Technique • "Beat" or "Beaten" • 8½" h • Hand Signed Astoundingly beautiful, unusual, Battuto--"beaten"--art glass vase. Hot hand-blown, then "coldworked" to wheelcut the beaten look to about the middle half of one side--from top to bottom. The remainder of the piece's finish is a very soft satin on a light purple ground. An Italian originated technique, but we are not sure if it was made in Murano, or one of the many highly talented American artists at U.S. art glass studios. Pontil area/base ground-flat, lightly polished & signed. Excellent addition to an art glass collection, or thoughtful gift! It was hot hand-blown and then "cold-worked" to "carve" in the beaten look to one side--from top to bottom. The remainder of the piece's finish is a very soft satin on an aubergine, purple or eggplant-colored, ground. It is a an Italian originated technique, but we are not quite sure if it was made in Murano, or by one of the many highly-talented American artists at one of our many high quality U.S. art glass studios. The pontil area/base was ground-flat, lightly polished, and signed, but we can't say for sure who was the artist. Astoundingly classy and visually stimulating! An excellent addition to any art glass collection, or a thoughtful gift for a special person--including yourself, of course! Any natural indentations, bubbles, tool marks, carbon/ash deposits, and/or any other natural textural features are all original and normal for hand blown glass. Wear to the base is normal and consistent with age.
