In addition to the Red Army, the NKVD troops for the protection of railway structures and the NKVD operational troops also had armored trains; as of June 22, 1941, they had 25 armored locomotives, 32 artillery armored platforms and 33 motorized armored cars [1] [2].In 1941, 42 armored trains were lost: 21 - listed in the lists of the Main Armored Directorate, 21 - others (naval, local construction, captured Baltic); no losses of NKVD trains have been identified [3].On October 29, 1941, the USSR People's Commissariat for Defense by Directive No. 22cc, signed by the People's Commissar of Defense I. V. Stalin, ordered by the end of 1942 to form 32 armored train divisions, two armored trains each. The industry exceeded its plans and built 85 armored trains, of which 65 are OB-3 type [4]. An armored locomotive of the NKPS-42 type - the same in the OB-3 armored trainsThe experience of the war showed that two-turret armored cars are impractical: firstly, they are too heavy (which creates an overload of the track and makes it difficult to lift the platform in the event of derailment), and secondly, if they are damaged, the train loses half of the artillery. At the end of 1941, an armored platform of the OB-3 type (lightweight - the third version) was proposed instead - two-axle and with one turret - in fact, half of the pre-war armored car (designed for semi-handicraft production in railway workshops [5] [2].Armored locomotive of the OB-3 armored trainThe production of armored trains of the OB-3 type was carried out simultaneously in 36 locomotive depots and at 10 locomotive and car repair plants [6]. The rolling stock and materials needed for their construction, with the exception of armor and weapons, were taken locally. The armor was supplied from the nearest metallurgical and tank factories. On most armored trains of the OB-3 type, armor protection was made of unhardened steel, and where construction was carried out next to factories that could carry out hardening, or received substandard armor from the production of tanks, the armor protection was made of hardened steel or armor [5]. A total of 65 armored trains were built [4], including 10 in 1941 ("Kovrovsky Bolshevik", "Yuzhnouralsky railwayman" and others), in January 1942 - 12 ("Vasily Chapaev", "Forward, to the West!" ( Orenburg steam locomotive repair plant), "Kyzyl Tatarstan" and others), in February - 17 ("Railwayman of Kuzbass", "For the Motherland!", "Fighter of German invaders", "Victory", "Sverdlovsk railwayman", "Sibiryak-Barabinets", "Soviet Siberia", "Stalin Ural", "Chelyabinsk Railroad" and others) and in March - 26 ("Komsomol of Chuvashia", "Luninets", "Metallurg Kuzbass", "Moskvich", "Severokazakhstanets", "Sibiryak", " Stalinist "and others)Payment Policy We accept only PayPal Shipping Policy We ship WORLDWIDE.We will ship your purchase to your eBay address using AIRMAIL with TRACKING NUMBER.
