Mexican Master Armando García Núñez Painting Sold at Morton Subastas……..................$6,000.00 USD March 14 – 2013 Monte Athos 179, Lomas de Chapultepec México City Armando Garcia Nunez 1883 - 1966 was born in Oaxaca. In 1900 came to the Cd. In Mexico, where it is inscribed in 1901 at the Academy of San Carlos. Pupil of Antonio Fabres and Germán Gedovius, he completed his studies in 1911. During this time he met the prestigious landscape painter José María Velasco. In 1911 the president Francisco León de la Barra gives for its artistic merits a grant to travel to Europe, starting in Barcelona and makes their studies in Madrid, in 1912 he was admitted to the Spanish National Exposure in the Buen Retiro in Madrid where he presented 16 landscapes. Also travels to Paris and studies at the Louvre. In 1914 back to Mexico won the opposition as a teacher of anatomical drawing of the National Preparatory School and at the Academy of San Carlos. Between 1911 and 1913 by a strike closes the San Carlos Academy but the artist Alfredo Ramos Martinez organizes an art academy in Iztapalapa in which integrates García Núñez. In 1919 and with the sugimiento of the muralism in Mexico forna the Union of Painters, Sculptors and Engravers Revolutionaries of Mexico created by David Alfaro Siqueiros and of which it is a part Armando García Núñez, even with its firm decision to be landscaped and never as opposed to the artistic and intellectual currents of the time. García Núñez was a landscape painter of the classical school, with a great luminosity and transparency in its artistic expression but also the human figure.
