Description: Carl Hagemann was a German chemist, industrial manager and one of the most important German art collectors and patrons in the first half of the 20th Century. When he died in 1940, he left a collection of some 1,900 art objects, most of which was considered "degenerate art" during the Nazi regime. It was hidden away by the director of the Stadel Museum in Frankfurt, thus saving many important works. This volume of his asphorisms is 4.5 x 6 inches and is unpaginated. Cover art is not credited but is a wonderful example of the German expressionism that was condemned by the Nazis.
