The clip depicts the literary portrait of Johnny Griffin, with his floppy hat. In the mid 1800's, an unknown artist painted the face of a young black boy, a work of art that captured the hearts of Americans, and became a famous advertising and literary image, known as 'Johnny Griffin, the young black boy with the torn hat'. No cracks, chips, bends, breaks. The original bronze plating is in excellent condition on the top plate. The polychrome paint is in excellent condition which is somewhat rare. The spring is still good.The clip measures 4-1/2" long x 2-1/2" wide x 1-5/8" high. It weighs in at 8.3 ounces. It has the Judd design number: # 5247 on the back plate.
