Description: This Anton Michelsen cup or small vase is 2 3/8" tall with a top diameter of 2 3/4" and 2 1/4" at bottom. The vase is scalloped with a tapered fluting. The sides are decorated by enameled vertical paneling in a vivid blue color separated by a gilt braid. There is a band of horizontal gilt decoration just below the mid section of the cup that is engraved with a foliate design. The cup is stamped on bottom: A Michelsen Copenhagen/ H9/ Sterling Denmark/ X. This firm was an important Danish silver making firm; in 1841 Anton Michelsen was appointed Court Goldsmith to the Danish Royal family. The firm became known for it's high quality work which often used enameling as part pf the decoration.
