Description: Antique WILLIAM HENRY RAWORTH (1821-1904), 19th Century, Still Life Oil Painting on Glass/Porcelain (rare), Signed, Framed & Gold Matted. Artist-painted, Raworth was born in Nottingham, England, at the age of 29 he left for Australia in 1850 to teach art. Later, at 51 he moved to New Zealand, showing over 200 paintings at an exhibit in Melborne,1872. Once his notoriety began to grow with the pubic, he became a creative working member of Otago Art Society in 1878 until his death. His works are amazing. Today, his pieces are finally reaching a heightened recognition and sell in the thousands. This is a beautiful still life of fruits (apples/grapes/cherries). The gold-colored matting adds a wonderful sheen & simple elegance. Lovely. Estate Sale find from an incredible home of world travelers with many fine collections of art & antiques. Condition is Used/Pre-Owned in excellent shape, antique frame has minor age wear nothing serious looks amazing (see pictures as part of the description). The signature is faint & difficult to capture on camera, it reads: "W. Raworth". Forgive the photos, the flash reflects off the glass, it's looks much better in person. His paintings on eBay sell on average for $1,400 (if you can find one).
