Description: This is an amazing, rare and large antique Victorian/Art Nouveau repousse chatelaine/clip aide-memoire with a fabulous mermaid scene. The metal appears to be brass and the detail is very intricate, including the exotic fish that connects the clip portion with the bale to the note case. It is quite substantial, measuring approx. 5.5 inches from the top of the clip to the bottom of the note case, and approx. 1.75 inches wide at the widest point. It contains six sturdy note papers, the first of which has a collection of words in fanciful penmanship: Love hope hate friendship marriage. The piece is in very good antique condition with light age-related wear to the surface. There is some light patination/scratches on the metal. The note pages show age-related spotting (all are unused except the first page). It's a really special and stunning piece that can be worn clipped to a belt or clipped on a lapel or pocket - or just admired as a piece of art!
