It's smooth and shiny and has a nice weight Inside is a red accordion-like folding structure with 3 separate compartments in the chatelain style. The short chain was meant to hang from the Mistress of the House's belt to carry the few coins or keys that she would need during the day. The purse is in beautiful shape with no cracks in the mother-of-pearl, no rust on the hardware, and no tears on the lining - someone took loving care of this. 2 3/4" wide, 2" tall (clasp adds 3/8"), and 3/4" thick.
