Description: This bean pot is 4 1/2" tall X 5 1/8" wide at the base. This bean pot is in good condition with a few chips around the top rim and on the lid where the glaze is thin. Clay-based redware was widely used in the early American colonies. This utilitarian earthenware pottery contains clay with higher-than-usual iron content. When fired, the clay assumes a reddish-brown color. Early American potters could easily access the clay, and was inexpensive. It is rare to find an intact piece.
