Description: Up for sale is this STUNNING dated 1903 sterling silver 925 calling card case. A visiting card or a calling card was a small, decorative card that was carried by individuals to present themselves to others. It was a common practice in the 18th and 19th century, particularly among the upper classes, to leave a visiting card when calling on someone (which means to visit their house or workplace). What an awesome piece with Art Nouveau floral relief and monogrammed initials. The back is etched NEW YORK 1903. The interior has a calling card original to its owner and fits it perfectly and for a Professor F W Hale. Fantastic piece weighing 25 grams or 0.85 ounce and measures 3.2” inches long by 1.65” inches high. Incredible piece for the collector and would make a fine gift for the holidays! Great piece of history!
