Description: This auction is for an Antique French Folding Triple mirror. The mirror is from the early 1900's. The frame measures approximately 9-3/8" wide, 8-1/8" tall"and 1" deep. The mirrors measure approximately 6-5/8" tall by 8-1/8" wide. The mirror frame is stamped "Patent No 182635, 26 Sept 1876" and the catch has "Brevete SDGD LB 1876". The Patent is for the tri-mirror that folds within a frame. A letter with the patent reads "Be it known that I, LUDGER TIBURCE BERTON, of Paris, France, have a new and improved Mirror or Looking-Glass, of which the following is a specification this invention relates to an improved mirror or looking-glass by which the reflections may be multiplied so that a person may see himself from several sides without change of position. There is a painting or print of chickens, wonderfully done, on the front. A bit like Ben Austrian. It is signed Ch. Jacque. Charles Emile Jacque, 1813-1894 began his training in engraving as an apprentice to a map engraver. In effort to avoid the plague in Paris, he relocated with his family to the artist’s colony of Barbizon in 1849. Jacque evolved into one of the principal animaliers of 19th century France. The painting or print not sure which, shows some age. I don't know if it can be cleaned. There is one spot where paper or paint is missing. The three mirrors have some spots but overall in good condition. I show a photo of the worst spots in the 11th photo. One of the mirrors has a chip near the edge. I believe the chain is original. The frame has lost some of the Gesso trim near the top. I show a closeup in the last photo. This is an"As-Is" auction so please see all photos and feel free to ask questions.
