Description: Original English metal trunk marked "Star Of India" best steel trunk manufactured in Birmingham for Whiteaway, Laidlaw & Co., Ltd. Star Of India, the world's oldest iron hull sailing ship., was built in 1863 in the isle of Manas. She retired in 1926, restored in 1962-1963 and is now a sea worthy ship home ported at the Maritime of San Diego in San Diego, California. The steel trunk shows original stickers inside of trunk. The solid brass lock is missing parts. The heavy steel metal trunk is worn and distressed with dings and dents. Real or simulated heavy knobs on top was to protect the trunk when stacking other trunks on top of each other. It has a mustard yellow grain painted finish. The bottom of the trunk has four wheel on wood slats and steel side handles. Great historical find. Measures 29" x 17.5" x 11"h. Please see pictures for complete condition.
