Antique Riessner Stellmacher &Kessel 13.75" Amphora/Vase Turn Teplitz Bohemia

Description: This is a Riessner, Stellmacher & Kessel Turn Teplitz Amphora and Spider Web Pottery Vase. Signed with the red/orange RStK Bohemia mark and embossed with number 149. It's an original piece from the Art Nouveau era, specifically from the Edwardian period. The design has a beautiful curved handle and hand painted florals with enameled gold details. There are some rubbing to the gold and some markings in the back. Otherwise, it is in very good condition. Generally recognized as the first and arguably the best of the Amphora manufacturers, Riessner, Stellmacher & Kessel was established in the Turn-Teplitz region of Bohemia in 1892. This area of central Europe was close to Dresden, Germany and benefited from the long tradition of ceramics manufacturing among the peoples of eastern Germany. The ceramics that Riessner and his 2 partners produced was known for its unique styles and the interesting glazes they used to create what became known as "Amphora" pottery or simply "Teplitz." Stellmacher founded his first porcelain factory in Turn in 1876. The factory produced porcelain flowers which surpassed French pieces for quality. During the 1870’s, Stellmacher developed a new ceramic material which became known as ivory porcelain due to its soft yellowish shade and matte finish. The new material allowed the ceramist to create more complex modeling and detailing of shapes and applied designs.Stellmacher’s factory broadened production from flowers to decorative ceramic pieces in the Orientalism and Neo-Baroque styles. Neo-Baroque forms allowed greater innovations in design with handles shaped like monsters and pierced or waved bases and rims, which you see reflected in this vase's beautiful floral design and the relief in the back with the spider and spiderweb.
