Description: This is a very unique and rare early antique Chinese wood & red lacquer box. The box is primitive. It is not a smooth finish and appears very early. Each end has stitching similar to the leather stitching that you would see on a leather trunk or other leather goods. The decoration of Chinese scenes is very subdued & appears to have years of protective lacquer covering applied to it. The decoration of Chinese scenes is definitely there, but not clear or bold. It appears more vibrant in the photos than it is. We don't know if with restoration it could be more pronounced. The old hardware appears to be iron or brass fittings. We've left it in its current state & have not tried to clean or shine it. The hinges & lock mechanism all appear to be very early. Dimensions are 10L x6d x 6h.
