Description: Unique pine trunk/chest with two lower set drawers, wrought iron handles, and box joinery. Bears Norddeutscher Lloyd shipping label from April 10th, 1903 for travels between Bremen, Germany and New York City upon the S.S. Grosser Kurfürst, a German steel-hulled passenger and cargo steamship launched in 1899 which was later interned by the U.S. Government during WWI and renamed the U.S.S. Aeolus. Drawers appear to have been crafted from E.S. Burnham of N.Y. Clam Chowder crates and are of two different sizes. Incomplete interior hardware seems to be a locking mechanism for drawers. Purchased from the Pulaski, Virginia estate of the Hunter Family, originally of New Jersey. A truly beautiful, solid piece of History.
