Description: This stunning HEAVILY DETAILED treasure is believed to be an authentic RARE antique Peruvian TIGHTLY WOVEN WOOL poncho/kilim rug from the early 1900s is a fine example of handmade wool Peruvian craftsmanship. an investment piece. The bright and colorful WOVEN rug /poncho features wine red color with extensive multi-colored accents in a Peruvian style. the design is wide and exquisitely crafted......The material is all wool, possibly alpaca....and the regional design is kilim. This unique piece is original and NOT a reproduction...... it is old. the detail includes a wide center portion exquisitely woven, wide borders and lovely detailed finishing piping all around. we are not kilim experts and try to be honest in all our descriptions. purchased as an old piece in the 1960's. safely stored all these years. tight weave and substantial thickness. these ponchos strongly represent the culture of Peru and are a perfect addition to any collection of antique rugs, or ceremonial garments. typically the shaman wore these finely made items. we think that some time during its lifetime, someone closed the opening in the center with large stitches. perhaps to use as a blanket, throw, or rug! please note: item is of exceptional quality and has no head opening...look closely please and see the different center stitches which may have been used to close the head opening, however, these stitches do go edge to edge.
